Erick Thohir: Strengthen the Logistics Ecosystem
24 June 2023"The supply chain is the biggest disruption during Covid-19 and for the future. So, it is important that the government and SOEs continue to encourage collaboration in developing ecosystems from ports, airports, to railways," Erick said at the event in Jakarta, Friday (23/6/2023).
He said this cooperation was carried out to strengthen the logistics ecosystem, which is one of the biggest problems in the Indonesian economy.
According to Erick, if the issue of logistics ecosystem development cannot be resolved, then Indonesia will be left far behind by other large countries in the world. The Republic of Indonesia is an archipelago, so it needs qualified infrastructure to support logistics movements.
"This will certainly be our last competition because logistics is the biggest part that we face and is very challenging in the future. Moreover, we are an archipelago of 17,000 islands. Therefore, we in BUMN continue to encourage connectivity," explained Erick.
He hopes that this cooperation can be started and built immediately and within 3 or 6 months it will be realized. "So the momentum of economic acceleration must occur. The development of this cooperation is six months, or three months," said Erick. He encouraged SOEs to be able to attract foreign investors.
IDR 6 TRILLION INVESTMENT
The event was also attended by Pelindo Managing Director Arif Suhartono, INA Managing Director Ridha Wirakusumah, DP World Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem.
Arif said the cooperation between Pelindo, Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), and DP World, is for the operation of the Belawan Port container terminal for 30 years plus 20 years. While the planned development capacity is up to 1.4 million Teus.
"The investment is around US$ 400 million (Rp 6 trillion)," Arif said.
According to Arif, the presence of DP World will attract international cargo directly to Belawan without stopping first in neighboring countries.
Meanwhile, INA Managing Director Ridha Wirakusumah hopes for DP Word's technology in port development.
"What we expect from DP World is technology which is no less important is the development of port infrastructure, and attracting traffic from abroad. Why should we throw it to neighboring countries, those who want to enter Indonesia just come here," said Ridha Wirakusumah.
